Pubblicitario di successo, refrattario all’impegno amoroso (causa: abbandono del padre all’età di 6 anni, matrimonio della madre con uomo punitivo, nascita di 2 fratellastri) ma fidanzato, Teo incontra Emma, osteopata non vedente che, in qualche modo lo affascina subito. Si dedica a lei e finisce per innamorarsene ricambiato. Ma poi ha paura e scappa. Gran fatica per riconquistare la sua fiducia. Dopo il bel documentario Per altri occhi, Soldini ripropone il tema, che conosce bene, in un contesto di quotidianità: ed è Emma ad essere vitale, forte, ricca umanamente, quanto Teo è mortifero, difeso, chiuso. Teo is a man on the run. From his past, from the family of his birth, from the beds of women he has spent the night with and from which he slips at the first light of dawn, from responsibilities. Work is the only thing he truly loves. He is the ideas man of an advertising agency and never calls it a day. Tablet and cellphones keep him in permanent and compulsive connection with the world. Emma lost her sight at the age of sixteen, but has not allowed her life to slide into darkness. She works as an osteopath and moves around the city with her white cane, independent and determined.
