Da questo paradossale incontro nascerebbe The Lure, una favola per adulti che è al contempo una love story romantica e impossibile, un body-horror intriso di sangue e sprazzi di inaudita violenza, un’irresistibile commedia carica di sfrenato erotismo e un musical pop e barocco scandito da hit di successo rivisitate che pescano dai più disparati generi musicali. Questo e molto altro ancora è l’esordio al lungometraggio di Agnieszka Smoczyńska, la storia di due sorelle sirene che irrompono come d’incanto a sconvolgere l’esistenza delle persone che convergono in un dance club di Varsavia. Si chiamano come l’oro e l’argento, Zwota e Srebrna, e infatti sono di una bellezza sconvolgente. Come se non bastasse hanno il dono del canto, e vengono subito ingaggiate dall’impresario del locale come front-women della sua band. Tutto fila liscio fin quando i vizi e i costumi dell’Uomo non corrompono irrimediabilmente la purezza delle due creature. Mentre Zwota è determinata a coronare il sogno di una carriera musicale di successo in America, Srebrna è più attratta dall’idea di rinnegare la propria natura fantastica in nome dell’amore per un membro del gruppo. Imagine that an Emir Kusturica in particularly high spirits one day is in a brainstorming session with David Lynch and a Walt Disney on acid. The Lure is a fairy tale for adults that is at one and the same time a romantic and impossible love story, a body horror filled with blood and flashes of unheard of violence, an irresistible comedy full of unrestrained eroticism and a pop and baroque musical with reinterpreted hit songs that comes from a huge variety of musical genres and the result of this paradoxical encounter. This and much more is the debut feature film of Agnieszka Smoczyńska, the story of two mermaid sisters who a if by magic burst into the existence of the people who go to a dance club in Warsaw. Their names mean gold and silver, Zwota and Srebrna, and are indescribably beautiful. As if that weren’t enough, they also have the gift of a beautiful voice and are immediately hired by the venue’s impresario as front women for his band. Everything goes smoothly until the vices and habits of Man irremediably corrupt the purity of the two creatures. While Zwota is determined to crown her dream of a successful musical career in America, Srebrna is more attracted by the idea of denying her fantastic nature in the name of her love for a member of the band.
